We are already halfway through summer and we don’t know where all the time has gone. Couples look forward to romantic getaways filled with picnics, sipping drinks on a terrasse, and late night strolls, but these plans are often left behind. Before you know it, winter is coming, and the hot summer nights are gone. This can leave you both feeling dissatisfied and disconnected. How about going for a nice quiet romantic couples camping getaway?
We want to help you reconnect with summer by taking some time away from your busy schedules to just slow down and appreciate each other. We absolutely love camping as a romantic getaway and look at it as a way to detox ourselves from the hustle of everyday life. We are going to share our best camping tips with you so that you can have the best romantic getaway.
Have Flexible Dates
This can be a little tricky since summer weekends are always jammed with things to do, but try to keep one weekend a month free for just the two of you. You never know when the weather will cooperate so having some flexibility for your romantic getaway is a must. No one wants to camp in a thunderstorm!
Pick a Location
A good camping experience does not mean a crazy set up with state of the art equipment. You don’t want to spend the first 5 hours of your camping trip trying to figure out how to set up your fancy tent and your portable kitchen. A romantic getaway camping trip should not involve you screaming at each other, that is reserved for building IKEA furniture together. Keep it simple with a small tent, comfy blankets, camping chairs, and cooking basics so that you can start relaxing as soon as you get there.
Bring a Few Romantic Goodies
Sure you have the campfire going, but bringing some extra tea lights can add to the intimate atmosphere. Be sure to pack a bottle of wine and a couple glasses (mason jars are great for keeping the bugs away) along with a small speaker to play your favorite indie or acoustic tunes. The outdoors is beautiful so don’t overthink it, just enhance your surroundings.
It’s A Romantic Getaway So Look Cute
I am not saying you should go camping with a pair of heels in your bag, but you don’t have to wear your baggiest sweatpants either. Pick out some cute camping attire so that while you’re hiking you’re also checking eachother out. Your hair may not be done, your makeup may have worn off, but by golly your butt will look great in your shorts!
Spend the Day Taking Pictures
Remember that this getaway is meant to be romantic and all about you being together. Build memories by taking lots of adorable pictures together. Nature is the most beautiful backdrop for your photos so go crazy and click away! Do a mini photoshoot if you find a waterfall or old hollow tree and have fun taking silly pictures, romantic pictures, and maybe even a few naughty ones.
Get Creative With Your Food
Making food while camping is definitely more limited but there are a million ways to get creative with your meals. Think of camping classics and turn them up a notch. Instead of hotdogs, try italian sausages and panini bread. Make a sweet baked potato in the fire, or throw some veggies on the grill. Pinterest is a great place to find creative camping meals. Read our Food and Fun post for some great recipes. A classic s’more is never a bad thing but splurge on real graham crackers and dark chocolate to up the ante.
Dont Be Afraid to Get Dirty
Become comfortable with the outdoors and use its natural beauty to your advantage. This camping trip is about you connecting with nature and with each other. Throw your blanket down outside and get lost in the stars and the freckles on your partner’s stomach. Cuddle silently as you listen to the owls and crickets take over the nights sounds. Get entrenched in your animalistic roots and ravage each other all night.
Camping can be one of the most fulfilling and romantic getaways a couple can do together. You build fires, hike up mountains, prepare meals, and rely on each other to stay warm during the night. It can bring you closer and connect you in new and beautiful ways.
