Our Couple of the Week is Jenna & Roberto. An international couple from Finland and Mexico, who know the importance of good communication and making the most of their time together. We think their advice is fantastic for couples new and old!
Jenna & Roberto
Status: Dating for 4 months
How did you meet?: Well we met on January at the first international party of our University, when I saw Jenna I knew she was going to be my girlfriend and so I said to my friends “Do you see that girl? I am going to be with her” I kept talking with her at the party and took her to her home because she was a little bit drunk, Jenna says the fact I didn’t take advantage of the situation made her remember me. I asked her to go out Sunday the next week and had a nice dinner and went to the movies. At that time we were both crazy for each other but still no one took the first step on that date. It wasn’t until tuesday that we went out again and some drinks gave us courage to get closer and from then on we knew that we are meant to be together for a long time because neither of us have felt the way we do now.
When did you realize you were in love?: We realized we were in love after the 3rd time we went out, at first we were sure we liked each other but we were still getting to know each other. It wasn’t until the details we gave and shared with each other that made us realize we were in love but the real deal to seal our bond was traveling together for the first time to know that we are meant to live together.
What qualities in each other make you a good match?: We both love to Travel and have great experiences. We are both extraverted and we don’t mind doing crazy and stupid stuff together, jokes & laughs are the main ingredients of our days. Roberto is the best chef ever and always cooks breakfasts, dinners, & meals. We think that what makes us a great match is that we can read each other without saying anything and be comprehensive and support each other.
What is your perfect date night?: Our perfect date is anywhere in the world where we are together, looking to the stars at the edge of a river, having fancy dinner at the best restaurant in Cancún, trekking down the jungle to reach a waterfall, going to the most crowded club and dancing like monkeys with margaritas, or just relaxing on the beach with a watermelon for two. We cherish our moments together and every date is the best!
What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced as a couple and how did you get through it?: We are studying at the same Uní and sometimes schedules prevent us of seeing each other every day. Roberto works at his restaurant & club and is developing a startup to create more jobs in Mexico. He is always on the move and I have to accept sometimes that he doesn’t have enough time because he has many responsibilities. Its difficult because Jenna is studying in Mexico but she is leaving in summer to Finland and coming back again in August. That would be our first challenge as a couple, being away for 2 months and then later on when she goes back to Finland in December we have to find a way of staying together and not making this a long distance relationship.
What is one thing you would like to improve about your relationship?: We think that it’s important to always talk about how we feel in person and not through whatsapp. We need to improve our way of communicating when we are stressed or have too many things to do, in a way the other understands so we don’t overthink the situation.
What advice would you go back and give yourselves when you just started dating?: We just started and we wouldn’t change a thing because those mistakes we made helped us learn more about each other and work it out for the better outcome. Our advice would be always talk your problems in person and express all the variables that are involved in the problem. No trouble is too big if you love him/her enough to accept your responsibility and fix the problem and be better!!
